Physical Properties of Green Pea in an Inert Medium FBD Dryer Assisted by IR Heating
The drying behavior of green peas is investigated in a pilot scaled Fluidized Bed Dryer (FBD) with inert particles assisted by an Infra Red (IR) heat source. The variation of shrinkage and moisture diffusivity with temperature and moisture content were investigated. The experimental drying curves were adjusted to the diffusion model of Fick’s law for spherical particles. The result was that...
متن کاملCell patterning via diffraction-induced optoelectronic dielectrophoresis force on an organic photoconductive chip.
A laser diffraction-induced dielectrophoresis (DEP) phenomenon for the patterning and manipulation of individual HepG2 cells and polystyrene beads via positive/negative DEP forces is reported in this paper. The optoelectronic substrate was fabricated using an organic photoconductive material, TiOPc, via a spin-coating process on an indium tin oxide glass surface. A piece of square aperture arra...
متن کاملSize-specific concentration of DNA to a nanostructured tip using dielectrophoresis and capillary action.
One of the critical challenges in the fields of disease diagnostics and environmental monitoring is to concentrate extracellular DNA from a sample mixture rapidly. Unlike genomic DNA in normal cells, extracellular DNA dissolved in a biological sample can potentially offer crucial information about pathogens and toxins. The current concentration methods, however, are not able to directly concent...
متن کاملLarge-scale assembly of single nanowires through capillary-assisted dielectrophoresis.
An innovative technique is proposed for the precise and scalable placement of 1D nanostructures in an affordable manner. This approach combines the dielectrophoresis phenomenon and capillary assembly to successfully align thousands of single nanowires at specific locations at the wafer. The nanowires are selectively trapped by taking advantage of the material--specific frequence dependence.
متن کاملCapillary pressure and contact line force on a soft solid.
The surface free energy, or surface tension, of a liquid interface gives rise to a pressure jump when the interface is curved. Here we show that a similar capillary pressure arises at the interface of soft solids. We present experimental evidence that immersion of a thin elastomeric wire into a liquid induces a substantial elastic compression due to the solid capillary pressure at the bottom. W...
